Yes, tilt and turn windows are safe when fitted and locked properly. They have multi-point locking, can be built and tested to PAS 24 for security, and the tilt position gives secure ventilation. In turn mode they open wide enough to act as an escape route if the size allows.
Are tilt and turn windows secure?
The sash locks into the frame at several points, so they resist forced entry well, particularly with PAS 24 tested hardware and a lockable handle.
Are they safe for children?
The tilt position opens only a few centimetres, but turn mode opens fully inward. Fit lockable handles on bedroom windows if young children are about.
Can they be used as a fire escape?
A bedroom escape window needs an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33 m², with no dimension under 450 mm. Check the clear opening of the turn mode when specifying. See our tilt and turn windows.
