Composite doors are not burglar proof, because no door is, but a certified one is highly resistant. Choose a door set tested to PAS 24, with a multipoint lock and a TS 007 3-star cylinder. The lock and cylinder are the usual points of attack, so they matter as much as the door slab.
How secure is a composite door?
A quality composite door combines a tough skin, a solid core, reinforced hinge sides and a multipoint lock that spreads force across the frame. The certified set, rather than the material alone, gives the security.
What should you check on a composite door?
- PAS 24:2022 certification for the whole door set
- A multipoint lock with hooks or bolts at several points
- A 3-star rated cylinder (TS 007 3-star or equivalent)
- A properly fixed frame fitted by a registered installer
Is Approved Document Q relevant?
Approved Document Q applies to new dwellings in England, not replacement doors. Even so, specifying a PAS 24 door set for a replacement follows the same sound practice.
