Should I replace my old aluminium windows?

Replace old aluminium windows if they have no thermal break, suffer condensation, leak, or the double glazing has failed. If the frames are sound and only the glass or seals are tired, reglazing or new gaskets can cost less. A survey shows which applies.

What signs say it is time?

  • Condensation or cold spots on the frame.
  • Failed seals, misting between the panes or draughts.
  • Corroded or pitted frames, or loose corner joints.
  • Windows that are single glazed or have no thermal break.

Can old aluminium windows be repaired?

Often yes. Gaskets, handles and hinges can be replaced, and failed sealed units can be reglazed. The frame must be structurally sound.

What standard must new windows meet?

New replacement windows in England need a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or Band B on the Window Energy Rating, which old unbroken frames cannot reach.

What does a survey cover?

A survey of the frames, glazing and openings shows whether repair or replacement makes sense. Phoenix backs new work with an insurance-backed 10-year guarantee. See our aluminium windows.
